When to Stop Listening

What’s on the iPod: The Last Wine of Winter by Chris Bathgate Last week we touched on advice. I’d had that encounter with a writer not long ago where asked-for advice was met with some heavy resistance and “I know how to do that.” Weird reaction to someone answering your question, but some people cannot…

Random Holiday Tidbits

What’s on the iPod: Into the Mystic by Van Morrison We woke up yesterday morning to about 6 inches of snow, more or less. Unlike the city to our east, we were spared the remaining 12 inches. Not that it makes me happy to say that – I love snow from the first flake right…

We had a great weekend filled with cooking, collaboration, stories, and laughter. Probably the most stress-free holiday yet. It didn’t start out that way with kids appearing (re-entry is toughest on…

What’s on the iPod: 4th of July by Steven Kellogg and the Sixers Yesterday being a fractured work day, I expect today to be utterly boring. I want to try contacting these associations that keep ignoring my emails. I need one more quote for an article and I don’t want to have to think about…

What’s on the iPod: Rocking by Roger Whitacker Today’s my first day typing with the fingerless gloves this year. Not that I haven’t needed them all this month – it’s been in the 20s during the day. But today is the first my hands are feeling it. So back to getting used to typing with…

What’s on the iPod: Sea of No Cares by Great Big Sea Super day yesterday. I accomplished much more than I thought I would, and I still had time left over at the end of the day to relax. That’s almost unheard of – time to relax in December. I had my shopping done five…

The article, sorting out insurance, working on the workshops, and getting the party organized all fit in there.

I have a ghostwritten article to do, some blogging and working on my business plan. Also, waiting to hear back from a client on timing for another ghostwritten article.

I have just a few little "odds and ends" for Christmas shopping. The big stuff is done. One good thing to be said for the slower work time is I got a ton of personal stuff done. My office is so clean, it's scary. 🙂

Lori, that stinks about the digital recorder. I'm sure I'm going to jinx myself by even bringing this up, but I've never had a problem with my Olympus. It's an old warhorse DS-2, running DSS Player 6.2.1. Your experience is exactly why I dread the inevitable need to buy a newer one.

On the plate today, transcribing a long interview and working up Round 2 of a website for someone.

In the reading queue, The Fourth Turning, which I'm really looking forward to, albeit with a touch of existential dread…

I'm done work-wise for this week. I need to run to the store for something and I'm thinking about picking up a couple of things for the Toys for Tots drive they have going on locally.

I'm taking tomorrow off for myself. I don't know what I'll do yet, but I'll figure it out as I go.

What a wonderful Christmas gift – college graduation. Congratulations to the new grad and the mom that helped lead her to the road she's on.

I have a little bit of editing to do, some forms that need to be scanned in and faxed to a new client before I can begin working for them, and a small stack of Happy New Year cards to get addressed and sent to my editors. After that, I have to put up Lilyville – my ever-growing Christmas village. (Don't blame me – it's become an easy gift idea for relatives when they can't think of anything else. I've told everyone: No more buildings, unless it's a stone church with stained glass windows.) I've already had to divide it to Lilyville proper (in the living room) and rural Lilyville (in the dining room).

Lori: Congrats on your daughter's many accomplishments (and extra kudos for planning a train trip to get to graduation — for my money, the absolute best way to trvel 🙂

Nothing overly exciting to share with the group work-wise, but wanted to be sure I dropped a congratulatory note here before you hit the rails. Hope your weekend is a wonderful one!
