This is a mish-mash sort of post. Just consider it my random brain dump – perfect for a Friday!
Happy Friday the 13th. If you’re like me and oddly fascinated by all things superstitious, this is your day. I’m more of the morbid-curiosity type. I’m not superstitious, but I find it interesting to see where these ideas were started. I am into the idea that the cosmos sends us messages and guidance to some degree, so any notion that a ladder or a cat could spell doom is intriguing. Weird, but intriguing nonetheless.
What a difference a haircut makes! I was feeling all disheveled thanks to too much work and too little hairstyle (the latter being the real issue). But after yesterday’s cut and “enhancement” I feel like a new woman. In fact, my hair is now the color it was when my better half met me, which thrills him no end. I say hair fades over time (and gets whiter). He thought I’d gone lighter on purpose. Hell no! Why would anyone implant grays on purpose?
It’s been about four days since I gave my price to the boomerang client. Silence. They may eventually respond, but I believe their budget just isn’t up to snuff with their wish list. I hope when they do get in touch they don’t try countering. Not cool considering the “we want you back at your price” condition. I don’t think they would, but I’ve been burned too often to dismiss the thought.
I was reading a neat blog post on how to get big marketing bang out of minimum dollar input. How many of you use social networking sites to market? I found one ongoing job on Twitter and have reconnected with two clients on LinkedIn. Have you had success with marketing via such places? If so, how’d you do it and how much success are we talking?
What’s on your mind today?
I LOVE Friday the 13th. One of my favorite days in the calendar.
I found a book i needed by accident at a library sale yesterday — so happy.
Working away on the Christmas story and getting a few other things sorted before I head off to a site job.
I've landed some really cool gigs via both my blog and Twitter, and gotten some guest blog opportunities via MySpace.
I'm just me. Seriously, that's how I landed the gigs — I was totally myself and the people in charge liked it.
Your planets are aligned properly, Devon. 🙂
I've always had fun with Friday the 13th. I've had numerous black cats over the years, so I know it's bogus that they bring bad luck to anyone. Well, Hal brought much bad luck to himself, but he lived through some serious scrapes. Not such bad luck after all!
Great news on that book! I love when the universe delivers what we need by accident. 🙂
I'm using social networking a little more for work than I thought I would, and so far, the return on that investment has been nice.
Friday the 13th is just another day to me. I’m not superstitious, nor do I believe in universal influences in our lives. But, I do respect others who are into them, because they have so much passion in their beliefs that they just exude confidence. I can’t fault anyone for that; except when their beliefs cause harm. (like Jonestown, for instance)
I haven’t done much in the way of social marketing. I like how Devon said, “It’s just me.” That’s the whole point of socializing is selling who you are as a person. My problem is that I’m twitter-illiterate and can’t seem to figure out the social sites like Facebook and Myspace.
As for what’s on my mind, well, you’ll have to read my blog post’s entry for today. Something has been invading my thoughts lately. If I don’t scratch the itch soon, I may just go crazy.
Didn't even realize it is Fri. 13th and don't care. Too busy with Twitter, for which I hold you entirely responsible. Remember, I made you jump in first and tell me the temperature before I would try it?
Well, yes I use it for marketing–when I can quit chatting, visiting, passing along RTs long enough to think up a good short message.

P.S. I have not really stopped following you — just moved you to a private account for reading only.
Did you notice? Do you care?
I noticed! I care! :)) And yes, you're entirely to blame for my Twitter success, Georganna. You pushed me and I sunk right in. 🙂
And vice versa, especially accent on the vice. Oh crap! It's #FF time again!
Note to self: Add Lori to FF list this week. Also find a tweet of hers to RT.
So, Lori, will you be updating your photo here with one showing off the new 'do?
My hair is too long. I usually try to get it cut once or twice a year. For various reasons, I didn't get to it this summer, and when I was ready, I learned the place I go to had closed abruptly the week before. I decided to let it grow a little more so I can donate it again (I've heard negative things about Locks for Love, so I donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths instead). Now, I'm asking friends who cuts their hair. One, because her hair is so frumpy I won't go to her stylist. Another, who has a lifelong record of dreadful cuts was here last week and her hair was great – sleek, fun, and a little funky, without being too weird or high-maintenance. Best of all? The place she went has $25 cuts. (Well, they call it hair "sculpting" – what do they use, a chisel?)
I often have my hair pulled up to get it out of the way, but I was rocking a headband yesterday. I had a package to hand my letter carrier, and she said, "I am so jealous of your long thick hair." I had to laugh because my hair is not thick at all – it was just dirty. But apparently, as sick as I am of my own hair, it's not that bad.
As a kid we were told it was bad luck to touch anything black on Friday the 13th. Me? I often wear at least a little black.
As for social media, I've re-connected with long lost editors at LinkeIn. I've also found sources and article ideas (thanks to status updates), and looked up editors I wanted to pitch ideas to. But so far no assignments from any new places. But I've been there less than a year.
I'm still ambivalent about Twitter. It seems like a giant time suck. And that's what I have Ravelry for. (That's a social networking site for knitters, crocheters, and various yarn fiends.)
