What’s on the iPod: Into the Mystic by Van Morrison This week has gone by a little too quickly. I have one article due tomorrow (my own deadline, but a promise is a promise), and I have two blog articles to complete before the end of the month. Plus a stalled project may be getting…

Doing Your Homework

“You have touched on some fastidious factors…” Don’t you just love spam comments? I was weeding through 1,900 or so of them the other day and I realized the correlation between spam comments and writers missing the mark with their queries — neither the spammer nor the writer did their homework. Sure, we don’t expect…

There are few people in the freelance writing world I’ve known longer than Anne Wayman. Anne is a veteran writer who was the driving force behind About.com’s Freelance Writing website. There, Anne built a strong, cohesive community — one that is still pretty darned cohesive a decade and some years later. She’s taught a lot…

Cathy Miller is one of my closest friends. I’ve never met her, but it’s hard not to like a successful, hard-working freelance writer who’s going about her business quietly while totally owning her space. In this her third post for this Writers Worth Month (it’s a record — thank you, Cathy!), Cathy reiterates the idea…

Exactly, Sharon! There's so much information floating around, and not all of it fits.

What a great quote, Cathy, and so true. Money can't buy happiness and it is only one measurement of many when it comes to success. Some people don't even count it as a measurement of success at all. Like you, I was making the highest salary of my career when I left to become a freelance writer. Not only am I happier now, I'm also more successful in the things that matter to me most. The paycheck is only one measurement of the things I count as success.
