One of the things I discovered when I need to deliver "walking papers" is, much as I'd like to overlap, the only way it ever works is to make a clean break so there's room for the new.
Terrifying sometimes, but otherwise, I wind up just hanging on to what doesn't work and getting more and more mired.

Now I'm just mad that the calculator doesn't play Kumbaya. Or, depending on the numbers you get, Highway to Hell and Stairway to Heaven.

Cathy, this is brilliant. I think writers get stuck in this idea that we have to leap in with two feet and run like hell fresh out of the gate. This isn't a horse race — it's a career. Inertia is the death of any career, so if you don't want the marathon and you don't want the lack of movement, what can you do?
Baby steps. 🙂 May take a few dozen, but as you say, it's movement forward.
