Posted on June 28, 2010 by lwidmer

What’s on the iPod: Poison Prince by Amy MacDonaldWhat I’m reading: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larsen Hopefully as you read this, I’m reeling in record-breaking bass or pike. One can only hope. Per usual, here are some vapor trails of my existence…. The birthday is now a day old and I…

Favorites and Sure Things

Posted on April 21, 2010 by lwidmer

Taking my own advice yesterday, I contacted an existing client. Very simple communication – I asked how he was and if he had any need for my help. Those few words scored me two upcoming projects. Amen. Going into the summer months, I’m happy to be bolstering the income potential. As I read through the…

It’s About You

Posted on March 19, 2010 by lwidmer

Here’s an interesting thought – can your business survive if you do all your marketing virtually? That’s what Kimberly Ben at Avid Writer ponders this week. Here’s the link. Short synopsis – a writer who markets face-to-face claims she knows why a writer who doesn’t is struggling. She thinks with no direct contact, the writer…

The Writing Freebie

Posted on December 18, 2009 by lwidmer

I read with interest and a little more sarcastic laughter than I’d planned a post or two by people on other blogs basically scoffing and calling professionals who hold themselves to a higher earning standard hypocritical. At issue – the fact that we “bemoan” writing for too little, then post free weblogs. Oh, if only…

Posted on December 17, 2009 by lwidmer

Short and sweet today – I’m trying to get a holiday going here. Diane Parkin is ahead of the rest of us, and I thank her for it. Did you ever get a great idea about a summer vacation, but can’t market it because hey, it’s summer already? Diane’s posted some excellent prompts on her…

Worthy Tip: Give Yourself 15 Minutes

Posted on December 11, 2009 by lwidmer

Oh, did I raise an eyebrow or two when I mentioned this week that I spend 15 minutes a day marketing! You don’t believe it, do you? But it’s true. I don’t spend a ton of time marketing. My marketing is virtual and quick – therefore, it shouldn’t take much time. Oh, not every marketing…

The Marketing Myth

Posted on December 8, 2009 by lwidmer

If I hear one more person say that it takes tons more time to market a higher-priced article than it does to funnel something through a content mill, this last nerve of mine will snap. Three times this week and once last week, people have actually told me that selling an article that pays, say,…

It’s Wednesday – Have You Marketed This Week?

Posted on July 15, 2009 by lwidmer

Ah, caught you napping! Well, that’s projection. You caught me napping. I’m hopeful that by the time you read this, I’ll be sleeping in and being utterly lazy. I did get another potential project late Friday, so I’m content to jump ship knowing I can let the marketing slide this week. And you? How’s your…

I got in something last night that I need to turn around before I leave tomorrow, and I've got interviews for an article next week when I get back.

I've got some trauma in the fiction end this week, but we'll see how that shakes out.

How timely. I'm all over marketing today, even though a few potential projects have come through from long-ago marketing efforts. Hope you're having a great vacay!

Wow, Lori, right on time as always. My summer has been so filled with unexpected twists and turns that marketing has definitely fallen to the wayside. Yes, you caught me naping, but I'm on it now!:-)

I'm actually pretty content with my work load at the moment . . . one of my friends suggested I think about trying ezinearticles.com as a way of driving traffic to my Web site and drumming up new business (apparently Google love ezinearticles), but when I thought about it I realized I don't want to spend the time writing articles I don't care about–and that I'm not getting paid for–in the hopes of drumming up business I don't really have the time for anyway.

I just got back from a trip where I collected about 300 prospects. I've got to create the letters and print off the brochures, and then I've got a major Fearless Ink mailing aimed all over New England!
