Posted on January 12, 2023January 12, 2023 by lwidmer

Last week we talked about where your freelance rates should be. Hopefully it has you thinking about how to raise your rates with freelance clients. Perhaps too you’ve been thinking about what you bring to the table. What are those things you do that keep clients coming back? Those things, my friend, are valuable. They…

Guest Post: Writer’s Worth & Success

Posted on May 10, 2021May 10, 2021 by lwidmer

About a year ago, Paula Hendrickson promised to write a guest post for me. Like the rest of us busy writers, her work got in the way. Then we both forgot. Then she’d remember, but something else would crop up.  Then the idea just wouldn’t appear. This week, Paula had some time. And an idea….

I love Mika Doyle. Mika is one of those beginning freelance writers who is carving out a career, but doing it the right way. I’ve watched her from the sidelines as she’s built her freelance foundation, and it’s exciting to watch. Mind you, she’s gone through the same tough cycles and struggles like we all…

I get by with a little help from my friends. — John Lennon and Paul McCartney The end of the month. This month. Writers Worth Month. This has been a surprisingly impactful event this year. It started with me coming up with a post idea for one person to write about fear. Then it hit…

Writers Worth: Forward Together, Fearlessly

Posted on May 30, 2018May 29, 2018 by lwidmer

It’s Paula Hendrickson’s fault. No really, it is. Paula is the reason we have a month-long Writers Worth event. Paula is the reason I have enlisted guest posters for content. She’s the reason we now have Twitter chats. She’s the reason Writers Worth has become such a large part of my life, and hopefully of…

Writers Worth: Your Freelance Competition

Posted on May 29, 2018May 28, 2018 by lwidmer

Confession  Time: I worked a little yesterday. Yea, I know. Yesterday was the post about taking time away. I have a good excuse: I took off early on Friday. And I’d forgotten to schedule this week’s posts. So at 6:45 am on a holiday, I was here making sure this post would be waiting for…

Posted on May 28, 2018May 3, 2018 by lwidmer

Some lessons are easy to adopt. Today is one of those lessons. Today’s Marketing Move: Take Time Off Seriously, it’s Memorial Day. If you’re working, stop it right now. Who cares if you have deadlines? Work late tomorrow. Today, don’t be afraid to walk away from the lists and the deadlines and the research. Today…

Writers Worth: Coming Out of the Shadows

Posted on May 25, 2018May 21, 2018 by lwidmer

This post is proof that Emily Montgomery knows how to conquer fear. I’d read a post on Devon Ellington’s Biblio Paradise last week. A great post. Emily’s post (her first, it seems). I sent a quick email to Devon — would Emily contribute here? The next day, Emily’s first email to me came in. In…

This line here says it all, Emily ~ Not writing terrifies me more than writing. That’s the sign of a true writer. Welcome to our world and we hope you’ll come out of the shadows and share your gift, Emily.

Emily, thank you. Your words are so honest, and they echo exactly what I’ve been through, what we’ve all been through to get to where we are.

Congratulations on your second guest post. 🙂 And welcome to writing. You’re going to be fantastic at it.

Two in such a short time. I may come down with the vapors! 😉

Thank you for the opportunity. I’m humbled.

Oh, another reason to like you — you used “the vapors” in a comment! 🙂 It’s one of my favorites.

I was really burnt out about a year or so ago, and wondered what would happen if I stopped writing.

Even the thought of it was horrifying.

So I sat down with advisors I trust, and we crafted a new plan. And started to implement it. A SCARY new plan, because it went against what a lot of “experts” advise. But I’m happier. I still have to make adjustments, but I’m happier.

Happier — that’s where our jobs should take us, right? We went into this profession (at least I did) to have a job we love. If it’s keeping us up nights, there’s no point.

Glad you got things sorted, Devon.
