What I’m listening to: Hardliners by Holcombe Waller I get to play today! Jenn Mattern and I have a date to do some collaborative projects, and I get to sit in her comfy chair and love up her dog and cats. I love freelance writing. 🙂 Yet because we work with a variety of people and…

What I’m listening to: Tillidh Mi (I Will Return) by Runrig Remember the reason you became a freelancer? More free time, more freedom of movement, the ability to call the shots, name your hours…. That last one. That’s the one we forget, don’t we? If you’re like me, you’ve spent plenty of holiday vacations–times when other…

When September Ends

Posted on September 11, 2016September 11, 2016 by lwidmer

What I’m listening to: Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day It was that song (link above) that inspires this post. Well, that and the few documentaries playing when I woke up this morning. When it came up on my iPod, I knew this post had to happen. It’s been fifteen years. Somehow,…

New Face, Same Place

Posted on July 6, 2016 by lwidmer

Welcome to the new Words on the Page blog home! I’ve finally made the move to WordPress, leaving behind Blogger, which was this blog’s home for the last decade. While it was a nice place to be, it wasn’t allowing me the function that WordPress does. Not that I’m a designer, or even adept enough…

Yay, she’s back! Sorry to hear you glitched out–I wondered what was up when my “broken link checker” plugin sounded the red alert to all your links. (And, as I discussed with Jenn during our podcast, I nuked my site accidentally last year, so I know EXACTLY how it feels.) Anyway, glad to see you back up and running, and I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments you’ve expressed here. The new design is great!

      I’m baaack….

Glad to be back and running! Thanks to Jenn, it’s possible. I was having no luck following the “easy” guides. You think it would get easier — this is my third WP site — but this one, for some reason, was the toughest.

I’m glad I’m not the only one nuking sites, Jake!

Your blog looks mah-velous! So glad to have you back, Lori. I’ve have often said that our industry has some of the most generous people around. And Jenn takes it to the next level. She is always so willing to help the technically-challenged (such as myself). I’ve told Jenn I truly wish I could do a brain dump from hers to mine. But then mine just might explode. ☺

I appreciate all of our generous colleagues.

    Nice fresh look here, Lori!

I have no idea how Jenn remained so patient with me few weeks ago whe I had an endless stream of questions while setting up my new website.

Maybe she’s taking notes on those of us who sometimes struggle with techie stuff to build a character in one of her horror stories – you know, the writer who gets killed early in the story because he or she doesn’t know how to reconfigure some thingamajig to signal for help before the power goes out. If so, it’s a small price to pay for her help!

LOL Paula, I think she’d have plenty of fodder with me. 🙂

Just goes to show how awesome she is. She helps without question or complaint. Though we may both end up on the fictional chopping block. 😉

Looking good, Lori. Jenn’s a wonder when it comes to techie issues. Glad she was able to help you get the blog back online.

The new blog looks gorgeous Lori, modern and clean (uncluttered & fresh), good job & kudos to wonderful Jenn for the help! Like Jake, I was worried too when the broken link checker plugin in our WordPress blog sounded the red alert to all your links (and we have tons of them in our Weekly Favorites posts) but I figured you must be working on a new blog 😉

Catherine, thank you! It’s great seeing you here. I tried to leave breadcrumbs by mentioning it on Twitter and having my pre-move post (a warning, really — I know my own technical limitations!), but I’m glad you didn’t worry too much.
