Teach Your Children WellI’m excited – my daughter’s journalism class has invited me to talk with them tomorrow. The teacher wants me to tell them what a journalist’s life is like. It should be fun, despite the hour (7:30? Do people dress that early?). One thing I have to address is deadlines. In fact, if…

When There Isn’t A ClueA recent editorial in the local newspaper featured a new freelancer going on about how much she was enjoying what she called “the latte life” – sitting in cafes and being a writer. She painted such a lovely picture of what freelance writers do all day that I wanted to be…

The Complaint Department Recent “writerly” talk turned to what’s discussed in weblogs. Some suggested that weblogs were bitch-and-moan sessions that reflected badly on the writer. What’s your weblog say about you? Do you complain? If your clients were reading your weblog, would you still stand by your posts? It made me think about what I…

The Mantras Talk of various mantras has made me wonder – what are your mantras? I’m not talking just those things that motivate you. What abotu those things that you must refuse to do? I have a couple: – I will not work for less than I could make at McDonald’s.– I will not work…

When to Hold Your TongueI have this new project (an ongoing one) that isn’t going well. It’s not the work – no, I’ve done some already. It’s the level of organization in my client (the nonexistent level of organization, to be precise). I do not like to “kiss and tell” as they say, so that’s…

Working for Ad Revenue One word – don’t. Oh, the employers offering you the ability to write for a percentage of the site’s ad revenue make it sound so great, but ask yourself this – when was the last time you clicked on an ad while surfing? How many times this week? Ooo, that little?…

No Spec Work! I was alerted recently to a website that is out to do good for the creative world – www.no-spec.com. This site is dedicated to creating awareness among writers and designers regarding working on spec. Give it a look. I feel so strongly about never working for free (unless it’s for your mother)…

Thanks for this, Lori. I just signed the petition too, although I felt a tad like a hypocrite in doing so. Although I will NOT write on spec, I do provide 2-3-page editing samples every now and then. If no one helps you out with the logo/link question before then, I’ll look it up in my Web Pages for Dummies book and get back to you later today.

    Lori:

You can link the logo to the No-Spec Web site just like you would link text. The code will look like this (in my example, I named the file nospec.jpg).

    [a href=”http://www.no-spec.com”][/a]

The values for height and width will change depending on your site and how it looks best; the important thing to know here is using the anchor tag to point to the No-Spec Web site. Don’t forget to upload the image on your server first as well or you’ll get an annoying blank box with a red X in the corner!

NOTE: I just had to change the <> to [ and ] for the img part of the code; Blogger wouldn’t let me post it the correct way. So use the same wording, just replace the [ and ] with < and >.

Second note: I had to replace the <> with [] all the way around because when I previewed my post, it used the anchor tag to link to the text I had written there. So just replace all brackets with the usual hairpins and you’ll be good to go. E-mail me or leave a comment on my blog if you get stuck.

Leigh, that’s the problem. I don’t think I can upload anything on this site. I don’t think Blogger has storage space for that, does it?

Okay, then host the image at a photo hosting site like Photo Bucket or the like. Then the code would be [a href=”http://www.no-spec.com”][/a]

The img src= would be whatever link Photo Bucket generates for you. I just made something up as an example.

I was thinking you were going to upload it to your main Web site, not a Blogger blog. Sorry about that!

Lori, you don’t need to upload the image. Just point to its location on the no-spec.com site. Like this for the first logo option: [a href=”http://www.no-spec.com”]. As Leigh pointed out, you’ll have to replace the [] with <>. If you want one of the other logos, just left click on it, scroll down to “Properties” and copy the address given into the IMG SRC tag.

Hmph, I guess Kathy outdid me! I looked for a page with image links, but all I saw were the actual images and no links to be found.

Sorry if I confused you, Lori!
