Broken Website = New Theme

Posted on by lwidmer

What happens when you mix a writer who doesn’t have the WordPress experience with updates that she doesn’t make?

Broken website.

Thanks to Paula for pointing it out yesterday.

A few things happened:

  • Seems my theme was retired by the company I’d bought it from. And it would have been okay to know that and not find out about it with a note instead of an error message in place of the home page.
  • Something done on the host side may have caused the entire issue. Thankfully, the host was quick to help me fix it.
  • A PHP upgrade, which I’d tried making myself a few times (and had failed), had to be done after it had all come to a halt.
  • I had to install a new theme just to get the site back up. The one you see now will not be here forever — that is, unless I find a way to configure it to what I’d like to have instead of what you see right now.

Bear with me as I put a new face on this site.

Back tomorrow with another post.

      That’s kind of you, Devon.

I think I’m okay. Just trying to locate a theme that I like. I want one with sidebars, which I may have found. I’ll test it out later to see. Thank you for the offer, though!

I don’t mind the new theme, Lori.

Then again, I detest the process of changing themes, because they’re all sooooooo similar visually, yet very different when it comes to function.

That right there is why I hate changing anything, Paula. I’m not good at it, I’ll admit. I’m fair. I get by. But when something goes awry, I’m all thumbs.
