Widget Anyone?

Posted on by lwidmer

Here you are – the first annual Writers Worth Day widget in honor of the … well, Second Annual Writers Worth Day, which is May 15, 2009. Mind you, I put this together myself and I am not a designer, so if the size is wrong, as I’m sure it is, I apologize. I have attempted to embed a link back to this blog for details on Writers Worth Day. It may work – it may not.

Please post this on your blog, your website, your email sig, wherever you can to spread the word and raise a little collective consciousness about our industry and our value.

You’d need to give us the code in order for it to link back to your blog. I’m pretty decent with html so why don’t you tell me what page you’d like to link to and I will try to write the code for you non-techie types. :o)

Katharine, you’re very kind. 🙂 I wish I knew what you just said, but you’re very kind. LOL

The only page I want to link to is this one – the home page. As for the code – do you mean something else?

Move over, Kim. I’m sharing that seat on the confused bus. 🙂

Ruthibelle, consider him (her?) raising a fist in the air. Sort of a Gumby version of “We ROCK!”

    Amanda, thank you. :))

If anyone needs a JPG (I posted a JPG, but for some reason it’s not showing up as one), email me directly and I’ll send one over.

I’m still looking for a way to do what I want to do, Lori. I’ll let you know when I have code for people to copy and paste onto their websites.

Katharine, if it helps, Amanda posted it on her blog with a link back. Maybe just right click on that one and save it?

I'm not promising anything, but let's see if this works:

    <a href="http://loriwidmer.blogspot.com/"><img title="Writers Worth Day" alt="Writers Worth Day" src="http://www.katharineswan.com/images/writersworth.jpg&quot; border="0" /></a>

    Lori,
I’ve posted the widget on my blog. You said something in the original post about maybe creating a page for Writer’s Worth Day. Are you going to do that?

Sorry, I didn’t visit for a few days and have only now seen that you created a widget. I’ve put it on my site with the help of Katharine Swan’s code.

Katharine, you realize that everyone who uses your code is going to be pulling the image from your site, right? If Oprah puts the widget on her site, it may crash your browser.

Kirk, yeah I am aware of that. I didn’t consider the possibility of Oprah using the widget, so I wasn’t concerned about it. ;o)

That said, though, is everyone expecting this to be more popular than I was? If so I can upload the image to photobucket and rewrite the code.

Katharine, I doubt Oprah’s heading here. 🙂 I’m guessing maybe 30-40 people will use the code at best. I don’t see a surge of users headed this way.

Honestly, I’m concerned you’re putting a lot of time into this and you don’t have to. :)) I appreciate what you’ve done so far!

I have about an inch of experience with this image stuff, so let me try loading it onto my loriwidmer.com site folder and revising the code so it pulls from there, too. I’ll be back if it works. 🙂

No problem, Lori! If you get the image uploaded onto your website, just sent me the URL for the picture and I’ll put the new code into the comments. I promise it won’t take very long! :o) There’s just something you need to do to put the code into the comments, instead of the widget.
