It was quite the weekend. Baseball (ugh), then football (yay!), and in the middle of it a disjointed plan to escape for a few days that turned out less than successful. Saturday we drove north to the Poconos with a list of B&Bs and an overnight bag. We located the state park, visited the park office, and drove just a little into the park before deciding we needed to get a place to stay before hiking.
That was about 4 pm. By 8, we had been turned down by nearly two dozen B&Bs and two major hotels, the last of which said nothing within a 35-mile radius was available. By 9, we were finishing dinner in a great restaurant in Jim Thorpe, and by 10:30 I was relaxing in my own bathtub. So much for spontaneity.
Only once before did we get burned and not find a place. We were in Munich coming home from our trip to Italy. We were going to drop off the rental car at the airport and just stay at the hotel there. Good thing we held on to those keys – that car was our bed that night. Some huge convention had hotels full from Munich to the Czech border. We parked in a neighborhood in a place called Friesing and he slept while I shivered.
So beautiful views on the ride through the mountains, but no extended visit. Didn’t matter. We saw a coyote, a gorgeous sky at sunset, towns we’d never been to, pretty water views, you name it. We just didn’t see the inside of any place to stay. Nice except for that part.
I decided to give my website and blog conversion a try on Friday. It’s still not working. I’m not concerned because I can just put the blog back up, though it seems my host had a simple blog attachment tool (VERY hidden – found it only when I went to the help section and read two articles). So now I have to put my site back up manually. But I’m used to technology hating on me. I have a dummy site sitting on a different URL. I’ll just cut and paste. Let’s hope that works. I have a tendency to think technology will cooperate because in my head, it’s easy.
I have an article to pull together today, plus I’m working on a client newsletter and have to gather reports from a number of people, so that will keep me busy. Then more marketing and some book work.

I'm cranky and my weekend sucked. But today and tomorrow will be better.
I have too much to do, and I'm overtired and having focus problems. I have to finish a pain-in-the-butt big job today, but I'm taking tomorrow off!
I was sick during most of the weekend, but thankfully I feel much better today. I start working with a couple of new clients this week and I'm excited about that. My kids have been on Fall Break since Thursday (who on earth came up with that??), so I've been getting some work done early this morning so we can spend the last day of their break exploring our new city.
I had a very nice weekend. My sister drove up for a visit and surprised us by bringing her adorable miniature white schnauzer, Kali. My sister did a training walk with me (talk about putting me in my place-she walks the 5 1/2 miles like it's nothing).It was nice having someone to walk with for a change.
This week I'm doing a blog post and marketing piece on a whole new industry (for me) that I know nothing about. Love learning new things. Have a great week everyone!
Sorry the weekend sucked, Devon. In meditation terms, this past week was one that created the feeling of nothing gelling. It certainly worked out that way for me.

Nice visit, Cathy! It's nice having a walking partner, isn't it?
This weekend I assembled most of a funky new sweater coat. It's this gorgeous bulky yarn with short bits of colors that remind me of autumnal sunsets. (The color is called Canyon Clay, I think.) Brown, rust, purple, gold, etc… Beautiful. Anyway, the pieces worked up quickly on big needles. Before I got my cold, I'd only sewn up the shoulders and sides and attached the pockets.
Saturday I picked up stitches (which I hate doing, but with big stitches and big needles it was easy) and knitted the front edging. Sunday I seamed the sleeves – I was worried they would be too tight, but they fit nicely (yes, I was walking around with just the sleeves on my arms). I wove in all of the little loose ends. After that I pinned the sleeves in. Sewing them will be tricky, since the stitches will show. After I get the sleeves attached I just need to add the collar and I'll have a great new coat. (No buttons required, but I can add loops for "button holes" if I desire.)
I wish I could knit better than I do, Paula. I'm good for a long, crooked scarf. That's it. 🙂
This weekend was spent at the ice rink watching my son play hockey. No games yet, just practice, but I enjoy it none the less. I'm working on a piece about a professional clam chowder cook-off coming up in November. The slant is for the home cook wanting to make their own great clam chowder. I'm also working on a newsletter for my son's hockey association. I'm doing this for free, along with an advertisement for my services, to show off to perspective clients. I would like to get paid, but I believe this might get me some leads since a mass of people will read it. Overall, a good weekend, but busy. In a few minutes I'll have a classroom full of high schoolers, so I better go. Have a great Monday, everyone!
Spent most of Saturday doing timing for a boating regatta, then my wife and I took advantage of the gorgeous moonlit night to do a pub crawl on our bikes. Managed not to crash, splash into a canal, or get arrested for cycling while intoxicated.
I had to wrap up a story for a new client over the weekend, and it was a goofy enough circumstance that I've got a Freelance Follies cartoon that will come out of it. Stay tuned.
And Wade, I'm jealous. Hockey was my absolute favorite sport growing up, and neither of my kids liked it. And I'm jealous of your chowder gig–we used to dig quahogs growing up and my mom's version was killer.

This weekend we did NOTHING. I'm so exhausted that I need to recuperate today.
This coming weekend, we'll have a house guest, so I chose to save up my energy for that. Sorry, I don't have anything exciting to report. I feel bad, so I'll share a MN redneck joke I heard the other night.

I had a great weekend. My younger sister and niece came up from Durban to visit me and I called friends round to let them know they were home. So we had an open house and it was lovely spending time with them and everyone else.
Work is going on well.
