Free Advice Friday: 7 Blog Posts Freelancers Should Be Reading Now

When I have a slow week, I look for things that impress me, teach me, or raise questions in me. This was a slow week, so I took to the internet to find those otherwise overlooked nuggets that get my brain engaged.

The result: a list of what I think are the top blog posts to read this month.

Overcoming Marketing Paralysis: Louise Harnby’s best line — “Follow your own path.” Amen.

A Marketing Plan to Start Getting Clients Today: A quick-and-dirty plan from the Freelancers Union. If you don’t know where to start, start here.

15 Examples of How NOT to Use LinkedIn for Social Selling: I’ve seen some of these sins on a regular basis. From people who should know better. Don’t be one of those people.

14 Marketing Productivity Tools: A few of my favorites show up on the list.

50 Productivity Tips to Get More Writing Done: Thank you, John Soares. I needed the kick in the pants (and the reminder to stay off Facebook during work hours).

5 Steps to Creating a Client Directory: A neat primer for those who don’t know where to start, or for those who want to refresh how they do things.

Who are We Seeking to Become?: This Seth Godin post is simple and packs one hell of an A-ha moment. It’s worth memorizing.

Writers, what are your favorite reads these days? Book, blog post, article — whatever you have to share is welcome.

I’m in the process of researching new social media platforms, for both myself and my clients. I’m getting more and more sick of FB. Love Twitter, but use it differently, and it’s hard to align my different interests there.

I’m learning how to use Tumblr. Not sure about it yet.
    Love, love, love Ello.
Ready to give up on Vero, unless they’ve fixed the sign-in problem by today.
Still researching Triberr, Mix (used to be StumbleUpon), About.me, and Fuel My Blog.

I’m deep in deadlines and getting the newsletter out and dealing with personal stuff. It’s been quite a month, and I’m struggling to get my focus back.

There are a bunch of changes coming, and, as usual, they’re all at once. Heaven forbid they take a number and create an orderly line! So I have to organize them, as best I can!

I’ll check out those sites, Devon. Seems to me I’d looked into Ello before, probably at your suggestion.

No, no orderly lines in our world. Wouldn’t it be nice, though? 😉
