Overworked and Under Deadline

Posted on by

It never fails – announce to the world you’re going on vacation and the work comes out of nowhere. Yesterday’s email brought a large book editing project and a ton of articles (which I can’t do because of the time needed for the editing project). Today – a press release needed by Friday. I have one article due on the 1st, but since I won’t be around next week, guess when I have to get it done? That would be correct – this week.

Hopefully I’ve left you enough fodder here this week to read. This is all there is for today’s blog post, I’m afraid. However, let me leave you with a question: Have you checked on those goals you set for this year? Any good news to report?

    Lori,

It’s definitely seems to be feast or famine when it comes to writing, doesn’t it?

I’m sure you’ll meet all your deadlines. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

I actually wish I had a tad more work crossing my desk this week. The good news is I’m beating my deadlines. ;o) Enjoy vacation #2.

Lori, I hear ya! I was supposed to fly to DC this afternoon, but my flight was cancelled, so now I’m flying out tomorrow. This week I’ve gotten an obscene number of emails and phone calls asking about my availability. In several cases, I just had to say no. Rush assignment for an article due Monday? Tempting as it was, it would have driven me crazy! Another assignment I accepted but told them I can’t start until August 1. Lots of blog fodder, but first I think I need to go to bed!

Is there something in the air? I have to leave town tonight, and a crapload of work just landed on my desk.

I’ve had to say no as well.

Mridu, it’s just typical of having no time to spare. The part of us that’s been through those lean times is dying to say yes, but the part that’s overworked is dying to say no… ;))

I have one stalled project that I suspect isn’t finished yet. I’m reluctant to contact the client before I leave because you know they’re going to want me to hurry up and get this done NOW before I go. I just don’t have time to do it and frankly, I’ve sat for weeks waiting for a word back. If they wait a week, the world will not end.
