It’s the fear of where my next job is coming from that usually gets me. I used to think those lulls between assignments would never end, now I try to look at them as breaks where I can work on projects for myself.

You’re right — we let the butterflies rule. And those nagging doubts come flying right back to haunt us the minute a client calls into question our abilities. Sure, plenty of them do it as a way to avoid payment, but if we don’t realize that, we’re sitting in a corner shaking, thinking we’re no good. And yet we probably have several satisfied clients that prove that charge wrong.

In the end, it’s as you say: only we remain, and only our passion for what we do should rule our actions.
