It makes it easier for me to market my services to particular segments. And as you say, editors and clients start associating you with certain topics when they want a writer, which is a great thing.

I've also found selling secondary rights of published material I own copyright to to be a great income booster. Usually I polish the piece up, maybe reslant it a bit, and then I send queries to appropriate markets to find out if they might be able to use it. Usually, if the piece was originally published online, I might try for a local,print pub. Or I look into print in other countries. Online content repurposed for inclusion in books has worked successfully for me maybe 6 times? It's not a great deal of money for any one particular piece, but it's money I didn't have to do additional work for.
