I think it was the 70s last time there was passenger rail service in my city – or even in this part of the state. One theory is that city officials back then were afraid passenger rail service to Chicago meant lost revenue as people shopped and worked in Chicago. (Um, with Chicago's astronomical sales taxes, everyone I know in Chicago tries to make big purchases – even gas – outside the city limits!)

The sad part is a year or two ago the state finally struck a deal to extend Amtrack out here, plans were set to repair existing tracks, and we would have twice daily train service beginning this fall, I think. But our new governor froze spending – despite the fact that the funds were already allocated and not part of his new lean and very mean budget.

Sensing a theme here: politicians in my state tend to be stupid and shortsighted.

There have been projects that went much more their way than the way I'd wanted, but we have to be okay with that. It's their project –if the check clears, that is. 🙂

Whether it is work or our personal lives, a major roadblock I see with so many people is the need for control. We put so many roadblocks in the way just so to control everything.

I agree that doesn't mean you let clients walk all over you but ask yourself ~

What is my ultimate goal? Is this going to get in the way of that?

It's going to be crazy in Philly, DC, and NYC when the Pope is around. I'm not even Catholic, but I'd love a chance to see him go by.

The biggest problems I've seen — and heard about from my clients — come from writers who either don't follow through as promised or blow deadlines. The thing is, unless they're on a really tight schedule, most clients will extend a deadline by a couple days if you really need it. You just need to ask.
