One of your last examples hit home. I just turned in an article about how Netflix and other nascent streaming services are already cutting in on cable's kudos – well, on their nominations, anyway. (Which by extension means they're stepped on networks' toes, too.)

The underlying thread connecting all of your great suggestions, Lori, is that writers need to keep their eyes and ears open at all times. Ideas are everywhere, when you're looking for them.

It's the same with comedy and cartoonists. My dad always used to say, "There's a cartoon in that!" A stand-up comedian would say "There's a joke in that!" And writers say, "There's a story in that." The best part, for writers, anyway? There's usually more than one story in any situation.

Aren't multiple perspectives great?
