You can shamelessly plug here anytime, Jenn. Your templates are great.

I remember back in the Dot Com Boom how often I'd heard "We really have no competition" and how each time I'd heard that, it was from another company doing pretty much the same thing the last company that had said that was doing. It's okay to say you have competition -- it's actually essential to know that. How can a company, or a freelancer for that matter, find their own differentiators if they aren't being truthful with themselves?

Great intro to the SWOT analysis Lori. In addition to doing my own (shameless plug: I have a template available as a free download at All Indie Writers if anyone wants one), I've done quite a few with clients. I like to have them do one before launching a new blog when they bring me in on consults pre-launch. It is such an eye-opener when I ask them about their weaknesses. Rarely do they think they have any. And then I have to break their hearts and point a few out. ;)

Thanks for the shout-out, Lori. :-)

I admit I don't do a SWOT analysis as often as I should. Since I plan on venturing into new territory, this would be a perfect time for a SWOT analysis. Thanks for the push. ;-)

I pretty much laid bare my weaknesses. I think I need to revisit my guest post and make it happen.

I agree, to make this worthwhile we have to make the analysis honest, relevant, and specific in both the analysis and how we plan to use that analysis to move forward.

Great post, Lori.
