Lori, there was an even better one last night when I was gathering leads. I wish I'd saved it or sent it to you. This one was paying something even more ludicrous — $1.00 per 200 or 300 words or something along those lines. They had to come right out and say they're looking for applicants who are okay with that. (Huh?) And they wanted three articles per day I believe. So yeah, you could earn $3 per day. Commence laughter.

$5 per post? WTF?

I've been seeing more and more ads that basically pay content mill rates, but also demand that you are "online all day" and "always available by phone."

First of all, I am only available for scheduled phone calls, and then I charge in 15-minute increments, like lawyers.

Second, I'm a freelancer, which means I set my own schedule while meeting deadlines with quality work. If someone wants me at their beck and call, they are going to have to pay a HUGE hourly fee, and that fee will be in effect for all of the 24 hours.

It's a content mill that bills itself as anything but.

And didn't the President just sign an executive order raising the minimum wage to $10.10? That's still not a livable wage in most US cities.

The same thought occurred to me when I read the Reddit bit, Lori. Reminded me of "mashups" that were so popular with less-than-scrupulous writers a couple years ago.

I'd say the only thing that sets this "opportunity" apart is that it must have been written by a comedian. It's too funny (and sad) to take seriously. "Automagically" is evidence enough.

Lori, it may be smart strategy on their part by saying you create the topic. That way if it's stupid, they can say – Hey, we didn't come up with it (but we only paid $5 for it anyway). LOL!

I did see you had the same "good" job listing on your site, Jenn. The work it must be for you to find the good listings — that's why I love your site.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw this while curating leads for my job board. I thought $5 posts went out of style as "good" pay (according to the naive) years ago. But that's okay. They tell you how many posts you'll squeeze in every hour. And at $10 per hour, you should be totally grateful, right? Give me a friggin' break. Forget $5. $10 isn't even minimum wage for a freelancer. And if they're so ignorant that they don't understand the difference of hourly employee pay vs hourly independent contractor pay, that alone is a reason to run.
