Chuck, your observations of any kind are always welcome here. 🙂 I'm really enjoying Mosley's work. Fast, intriguing read with well-developed characters. I'm glad I found him, too.

Reading above that you're reading a Walter Mosley novel. I discovered him a couple of years ago. Have not read the one you're reading but just added it to my Kindle collection. Back during the 1966 Watts Riots in So. LA I was working my first sales job that included that part of town. Mosley's novels have put a completely different spin on what I was seeing as an outsider. I'm not sure this is in context with the spirit of your blog title today. Chuck

Good for her, Paula. I think it's not that hard to assert yourself without it becoming a confrontation. That she's non-confrontational by nature must make it easier, for sure. I like this: "The vendor was unprofessional, but she still treated him as if he were."

That's the sign of a true professional.

Interesting timing. This morning my sister forwarded me a letter she had to send a vendor who hadn't completed his projects on time or given her an update to share with her clients. She said, "I had to send a 'rough him up' e-mail," and went on to say it might not sound rough to others, but it was as rough as she gets. Why? Well, one factor is she's like the rest of the family: non-confrontational. But it's also because she's very professional.

She's already made up her mind not to work with him again no matter how good the end result is simply because his lack of communication and disregard for the client's deadline put her and her client in a difficult position. The vendor was unprofessional, but she still treated him as if he were.

Sometimes that non-confrontational gene comes in handy!
