You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Don't monopolize the conversation and don't hit them up with a sales pitch from the get-go. Let them ask about your business or what you do.

And it always amazes me when someone disses someone who says no. It's a very small world, and your paths are most certainly destined to cross again.
