She sewed things up too quickly, introduced two characters who could have been avoided entirely or incorporated more fully, and the ending was unfulfilling. Good writing, but a little lacking.

How did the 5K go, Hugh? Congrats on it! I can remember my last 5K – I got a trophy, but only because only three people in my age group signed up. LOL

I'm glad to hear that, Ashley. It's slow going because it was a time when writers actually described things and took time with their plots, but I think I'm liking it more and more.

What am I doing this weekend? Just like Hugh, a whole lotta nothin'!

Lunch with friends tomorrow, and mixed in some reading and movie watching. Haven't read that PD James, but maybe I'll pick it up. I like PD James, along with a ton of other authors who write British mysteries and police procedurals.

And since you love all things Scottish, do you read Ian Rankin? I love Inspector Rebus and am sorry he's retired (if we believe that).

Not to be argumentative, of course, but for those of us out here in readerland, your recuperation is something that's *extremely* useful (and important, and valuable, and worthy …).

As for me, I'm doing a 5K Saturday morning (yay!), catching up on a bunch of work Saturday afternoon (boo!) & hopefully finding some time to do a whole lotta nuthin' sometime during the rest of the weekend.

I have one quick project and a column (my standard weekend work), maybe a bit of transcribing.

After that, it's yard work and knitting. Just got this LOVELY thick roving to work with. Started a scarf last night and knocked out about 14" without even trying. I might also bake cookies for a friend who recommended me for a writing gig which netted me an assignment within 24 hours of the initial contact, and quite possibly more in the offing. Pay isn't great, but she said the work is fairly straightforward and there's plenty of it.
