What’s on the iPod: Beautiful Day by U2

After a long week/weekend respite, I’m back to work today. Mom got on the train yesterday afternoon and headed home. It was a great visit, and we had a gorgeous day on Saturday for my daughter’s bridal shower. Her bridesmaids are fantastic–they spoiled her with a wonderful afternoon that was all about her, and they spared no detail. She has terrific friends and it shows.

The party was themed ‘Lucky in Love’ and it was held at our favorite place, Molly Maguire’s. The restaurant went all out — we had the second floor all to ourselves, our own bartender/waitress, specialty drinks just for us, and a fantastic spread of food. It’s a nice old building anyway, a brick row house that used to be a newsstand and pharmacy in its day. It was a perfect backdrop to a party that celebrated not just a wedding, but love of all sorts.

My mother made her cry. The girls, knowing my daughter’s participation in Postcrossing, asked everyone to bring one postcard for the event. My mom’s contribution was a postcard photo of my dad in his navy uniform, sitting with his navy buddies playing cards. That was enough to turn on the tears. And the day just got better from there.

It was sad seeing my mom go. She wasn’t eager to leave, but she was ready to go home and get back to normal. We’ll see her and my dad in four weeks, and then again at the wedding.

Today, I’m back to work. I’d cleared up a lot of work before my mom arrived, but I have plenty more where that came from, so articles must be written, invoices sent, checks cashed. Especially that last part.

I’m missing my annual trade show, and with my last article the cover story at the show (and scheduled roundtables around it), that’s a bad thing. My chance to get some added face recognition is gone, but since I’ve been attending the show for a very long time, most people know me anyway. Family first. Always.

With all that’s been happening, I’ve not put as much time into this year’s Writers Worth celebration as I should, but I intend to remedy that today. I have some great guest posts going up starting Thursday, and I have a few posts of my own to share. If you’re still interested, please send me a note and we’ll talk. lwbean At gmail

How was your week/weekend?

Not as eventful as yours but very nice – despite raining on and off most of the weekend. I am playing the guess the weather game trying to get walks in between downpours. I think the rain has finally moved out of the area – for now.

Sounds like you had lovely family time, Lori. And you're right – that's everything.

Guess the Weather — not a fun game at all, Cathy. Here, it's between 50 and 60 degrees (normally already into the 80s), and the rain has been threatening for three days.

    Everything. 🙂

Don't you love that people used to send photos as postcards? I have a few oldies in the family archive.

We're in weather roulette this week. A tornado touched down one town to the west and snow – yes snow – flurries are in the forecast for Thursday.

My weekend was nice. Well, Saturday was spent cleaning because the family was coming her Sunday for my birthday. My sister wound up with a bad cold or flu so we didn't want her to come and make us all sick. But my nephew was too queasy to enjoy the great restaurant we went to. Perhaps the best part of the day was introducing my niece & nephew and their mom to Scattergories – one of our family's favorite games. My sister-in-law won. Beginner's luck!

Can't wait for Writer's Worth Month to begin!

I do love it, Paula. She gets postcards from all over the world.

Be careful with the weater, too. It looks like another wild day ahead.
