What’s on the iPod: Nothing Like You by Frightened Rabbit (live at Union Transfer)
Oh, what a weekend! By the end of Saturday, well, it was Sunday. (Forgive my Captain Obvious moment this one time.) We awoke Saturday morning early and were in the car by 8 for the Tartan Day Parade in Manhattan and Tartan Week festivities. We arrived around 10, parked, then walked about six blocks to Church of Our Savior for the kirkin’ of the tartan service. Then a leisurely stroll from 38th up to 49th and The Playwright Tavern to meet our kilted friends for the annual brunch. Then down to 44th where we were lining up for the parade.
It was there we came across Kevin McKidd, this year’s grand marshal. Actually, he had been at the brunch at the church, but we didn’t realize it or we’d have stayed to meet him. Gracious, sweet man. Looks damn fine in a kilt, too.
After the parade, we walked back from 54th to 46th and St. Andrew’s Pub. We had a quick dessert and single-malt break before we left the city around 4:30. We had a Frightened Rabbit concert at 9 in Philly(check out the link above), so we left plenty of time to get back.We were kilted, and wanted to change before the show.
Ah, the best laid plans, as one particular Scot had said. Two hours in Lincoln Tunnel traffic wasted. Naturally. Usually when we leave Manhattan it’s much later in the day, so the traffic is minimal. Needless to say, we didn’t make it home.
We made it to the city in time to get a quick bite to eat at one of the newest, fantastic places, Fork. Then over to the show, which was incredible. In just eight months since we last saw them, the boys from Selkirk have stepped up their game. What an amazing concert! We were embarrassed to be there kilted, but people were complimenting us on our outfits. That made us feel less conspicuous.
We were home by 12:30 and asleep by 1 am, hence, the end of Saturday actually occurring on Sunday.
Yesterday, we caught up on sleep.
Today, I’m still a bit tired, but I’m doing another marathon. This time, it’s all work. I’ve a large project and it will take much of the month to finish it. However, since I’m heading to the conference in a few weeks, I don’t have much of the month. It’s only three days off, but it’s three days I can’t take without it impacting someone else. There may be a weekend sacrificed, if I have one.
How was your weekend? What’s on your desk this week?
New rule: never apologize for being kilted.
What did I do this weekend? So little that it's hard to remember. Oh, Saturday I finished my taxes (found a small HSA contribution I forgot to include!), invoiced and caught up on Doctor Who and Orphan Black. I also spent too much time on the phone. Sunday I bought groceries, watched a preview DVD and a couple things that had been clogging up the DVR. I also started a quick new felting project.
It was nice to have a weekend without any looming deadlines or backlog of work to wade through. (Yes, watching TV and preview DVDs is part of my job, but the things I watched this weekend were fun.)
I have two articles to get out this week and five more to start. Love having a steady workflow.
Good rule, Paula. 🙂
Don't you hate doing taxes? Or is that just me? I loathe it.
I like men in kilts… lazy weekend. Just the kind I like.
It's not just you, Lori.
The only upside is feeling somewhat organized because I keep detailed records of business expenses and all household costs that might be acceptable for the home office deduction.
