Wow, that weekend went by quickly. I spent a bit of it working. I have a large project in that is time-sensitive, and I took it on knowing the weekend was going to be sacrificed to some extent. I’m glad I spent those few hours on the project – I think I can wrap it up today.
Good thing – I have another client project that I want to get out today, as well. I got the first draft done on Friday, but wanted it to sit a bit before I sent it out. It never hurts to approach it after a few days of rest.
The weekend wasn’t a total wash. We tended to errands on Saturday, then went to see Tower Heist. Finally they’ve billed a movie as a comedy that was actually funny. Hilarious movie. Great performances, especially by Alan Alda.
Yesterday I worked a bit in the afternoon after spending a few hours cleaning (yes, I cleaned – what’s this world coming to?). We went over to Molly Maguire’s for dinner, and happened upon not the usual Irish music sessions, but a benefit for the Irish radio station. There were tons of performers, and some exceptional fiddle playing. I’m talking world-class fiddle playing. Some great pub songs (bawdy and fun), and a performance on fiddle by a young man (I’m guessing ten or eleven) that was so heartfelt. How do you do that at such a young age?
Then there was the redheaded boy, about five years old, who was doing the jig with the other girls in his dance class. Adorable!
Home to see football. Ugh. Let me just say there were some calls by the officials that had even the announcers going “Huh?” We lost by a hair, and thanks to a holding call that was clearly missed by the officials. He had his arm out and his hand wrapped up in our defender as he caught the ball – and no flag. Alas, we live to scrap another day.
The work is laid out before me today, so I’m going to get right to it.
What’s happening in your world this week? How was the weekend?
It was a cold one. Since it was snowing and in the 30s on Saturday, I didn't get in my training Walk. I did get to see Notre Dame win. 🙂
I shortened my walk from 2 hours to 1 hour yesterday to hurry back and see the Chargers game. I should have stayed out in the cold.
I leave Friday for San Diego. At least their coldest there is what would be mild here so I can get in some last-minute training before the 3-Day Walk the following weekend.
As is usually the way, all my well-planned work to be done before I leave is getting bogged down by slow responses on information I need to move forward.
Have a great week, everyone!
Good morning, Lori! How I've missed this place!
My world has been an extremely crowded place the past few months. New fulltime job doing all things marketing, nearly finished with my last class toward my master's degree, and I got an assignment from a publication I've been dying to write for. I've been so busy I nearly forgot that my birthday is on Thursday 🙂 My husband had to remind me, and normally I'm the type to start reminding people that it's "almost my birthday" in September. How annoying is that? 🙂
This week I'm getting a couple of contracts together for one new client and one client I worked with about a year ago. And my father-in-law is visiting all weekend, so I need to get the house in order for that.
And thanks to my insomnia and to you, Lori, for being awake too early this morning, I get to visit here before work. I'm a very blessed person!
It's busy around here, getting ready for the winter. The writing is going well, but I need to get my behind in gear for some short turnaround, quick-paying projects.
Oh, and I'm running around today dropping off media kits, etc., to local bookshops who want to do some events with me. That should be fun.
Hey Lori. It was a nice and sunny weekend my side of the equator. I worked over the weekend and finished a big chunk of a long-term project I'm working on and potted some plant cuttings. This week is going to be very busy too, as I start on the next leg of my long-term assignment. Nanowri is not going well though – I need to do better making time to write my daily quota.
No football for me, but I could hear the cheering for the people crazy enough to run the marathon.
@Ashley, happy birthday! My birthday's on Thursday too. 🙂
Saturday I finally admitted the growing season was over and pulled up the pepper and tomato plants, so it's nice knowing that in Damaria's part of the world things are blooming and growing. Don't you love the rhythm of nature?
Sunday a friend and I toured a huge 1910 Prairie Style house a couple blocks from me. I know the next door neighbor and had been watching the renovations of the past year or so. Last time it was on the market – less than 2 years ago, a foreclosure – the on-line "tour" clearly showed it had most of the old original art glass fixtures. The current owners replaced them all with gaudy chandeliers. (Didn't they know how coveted and valuable original fixtures are?) They also set some large ceramic tiles over part of the original narrow-slat hardwood floors (odd, since the floors were nicely refinished), running from the kitchen to the front door, like a hall, but without walls. If not for those two bizarre things, the house would be outstanding – beautiful built-ins, untouched woodwork, two sets of gorgeous original French Doors… Of course, I dread to think what people would say about some of the stupid things past owners did to "update" my house!
This week I start two new articles, and will send in an article I finished last week as soon as my check arrives for the article I sent the same editor in mid-August (it ran in their September issue)…
Jodi, happy birthday to you too!
Is there a rule that, say, 50 percent of professional writers' birthdays must be in November? Mine's Wednesday!
My weekend was great, with six out-of-town relatives here in the city for my niece's baby shower. I hate a baby shower, but I love my relatives. Good times!
Work's going well, but I'm still struggling to get the stamina to work a full day. I don't know if I'm expecting too much, but I'm a little disappointed that I'm more tired than I thought I'd be a month after my surgery. I'm still crashing every night at 8:30!
I've been working pretty diligently today, but I do declare that I might be too tired to work any more and it's only 2:41. Not cool!
LOL, Gabriella-mine's Nov. 29th! 🙂
Happy birthday, fellow Novemberites.
Happy early birthday back to you, Cathy, and to all our fellow Novemberites!
Cathy, warm thoughts today, healthy thoughts for your walk! Go get 'em. 🙂
Two clients amid your finals – good going, Ashley! Take your vitamins, caffeinate, and conquer the world!
Devon, I'm glad you're in a good place with work and life. It shows in your writing just how little stress you're having to deal with these days. Amen.
Damaria, I envy your impending summer. 🙂 Sounds like things are starting to shine. Nano's a challenge this year, and I've been told I've been a bit curt ever since it started. I don't see it, but they do. 🙂
Jodi, Ashley, Gabriella, and Cathy – happy birthdays!!!!
Cut yourself some slack, Gabriella. It's okay to be too tired to work, especially given the post-surgery situation and the family in town. Relax. Watch a little HGTV. 🙂
Paula, I hate when people do that to old homes. You can't buy that kind of detail, and they're too lazy to find ways to incorporate their own style with some of that beauty.
